Because to you, it's just a game…

All right. So somebody put it into the head of one of my little pals (she's four) that she's going to marry me when she grows up. (She would have to be, in her words, "Oh, I don't know, like, five or six or seven.") She has not forgotten this notion, even to the point of casually asking me one day, "So…do you wanna get married with me when I grow up?"

Imagine my surprise when I heard that she had a secret wedding ceremony with another young man from the church (who, at six, is more her age). When I asked her about it, she vehemently denied it: "Oh, he's a liar."

"But I didn't find out from him; it was my sister."

A pause. "Oh. Well…she's not telling the truth."

A few more questions, however, revealed that she did in fact participate in said marriage. But nothing was serious: "We were just pretending," she said. "So to you love is just a game?" I returned.

"Uh-huh."
