I really enjoyed your article. It’s refreshing to see
someone who is not afraid to speak on the subject
of predestination and election. I cringe when I hear
someone say that they “helped” someone else become
a Christian. Only God can save someone (from an eternal
perspective). He sure doesn’t need us poor, wretched,
sinful creatures to help Him! I don’t want to think
about my salvation if it was left up to me. I was “dead in
trespasses and sin”, so how could I have came to God?
ALL that Christ died for WILL be in Heaven one grand
and glorious day. If someone loves the Lord, it is an
evidence that you are one of His. Praise the Lord!

This was refreshing to read…saved by grace. Even in my children’s devotionals I have to edit out the free will doctrines. God does save people, we don’t save ourselves!

We have just started a Bible Study on Ephesians and we have been learning a lot as our pastor explains the Greek for words like predestination and election. As a result, my 13 year old son and I were inspired to start to learn Greek together. I had done a portion of Homeschool Greek with my older daughter and was looking forward to reciting the “makarioi’s” with my son as well. This week, I got out our box with all the Greek books, tapes and flash cards in it, only to find out that the Florida palmetto bugs, a.k.a. cockroaches, had set up a cozy little home in there. Thankfully, it seemed to be a recent decision on their part, and there was not much damage.

So, I’m curious, does anyone know how to say “cockroach” in Greek?

I think that we need to remember that free will is a lie. The only time that man had free will was in the Garden of Eden and since then our wills have become fallen and sin-laden. Sometimes people say “You actually think that God would drag a person kicking and screaming to Heaven?” The problem with their reasoning is that no one would kick and scream because they have been enlightened by the power of the Holy Spirit. They would be drawn gladly by God.

I am reminded of Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” And also, a little further along in that chapter, “But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Romans 5:20)

It is amazing to think about such a love as this.

Great post! I get so frustrated at those who preach that choosing Christ is the greatest decision you will ever make. I actually heard this preached to hundreds of Upwords Basketball kids and their families last weekend. I know their hearts are right but their theology so bad.

I was taught the “Billy Graham - choose Christ” kind of Christianity and when by His (God’s - not Billy Graham’s) grace I began to learn the real meaning of saved by grace and all of its implications I begab to truly see the extent of my sin and the extent of His greatness. God became so BIG to me. I often feel like people speak of God and about God but they don’t really see Him and know how awesome and fearsome is He of whom they speak.

My prayer is that the true God - the Sovereign One - could be revealed to all people who name the name of Christ - not the tame God who sits in wait for our decision.
